This paper introduces the debate surrounding financial institutions and human rights, with special focus on the challenges in translating related international frameworks to this specific industry. The paper outlines the main responsibilities and concerns of the financial sector regarding these instruments, its challenges and the responsibility that this industry plays in the new global scenario of responsible business and accountability for human rights abuses perpetrated by the private sector around the world.
